One possible source for a GIS layer representing the distribution of bioclimatic belts within the Mediterranean basin is the WorldClim dataset (www.worldclim.org). The WorldClim dataset provides global climate data at a resolution of 30 arc-seconds (approximately 1 km) and includes several bioclimatic variables that can be used to delineate bioclimatic zones.

To create a bioclimatic belt layer for the Mediterranean basin, you can download the WorldClim data for the region and then use a GIS software, such as QGIS or ArcGIS, to process the data and create the desired layer. Here are the steps you can follow:

Download the WorldClim data for the Mediterranean basin from www.worldclim.org. The data is available in several formats, including raster and vector.

Use a GIS software to extract the bioclimatic variables of interest from the WorldClim data. For example, you can extract the mean temperature of the coldest quarter and the precipitation of the driest quarter, which are commonly used to delineate bioclimatic zones.

Use a clustering algorithm, such as k-means or hierarchical clustering, to group the extracted bioclimatic variables into distinct bioclimatic zones. You can use the resulting clusters to define the boundaries of the bioclimatic belts.

Create a polygon layer in the GIS software and use the clustering results to assign a bioclimatic belt label to each polygon. You can also add other relevant information, such as the dominant vegetation type or the soil type, to the polygon attributes.

Save the resulting layer as a shapefile or geopackage, which can be shared and used by others.
