Including waste concrete or other industry's by products in green concrete production leads to sustainable concrete industry, but which one is the best option from a technical and economic point of view ?
I suppose there are many methods which could be sustainable you would have to complete a ranking and weighting method against a specific criteria to work out which is most suitable. One of the criteria could be - does the by-product need to be treated or re-manufactured before being Mixed with virgin cement.
Ive got a paper on a similar topic it was the utilisation of waste foundry sand in asphalt production. The challenges were trying to understand if the alkaline phenolic sand affected the stength of the asphalt. They carried out tests with different percentages of waste foundry sand and carried out 3 point bend tests until they could confirm that the sand stre ment the specification.
