Hello, I am interested in exploring surface features and properties of crystals, without doing classic illumination like what we usually do with a microscope. As you know crystals are optically active and each crystal is different in the way we see, it transmits light, depending on light direction, shape and facets, etc. Is there a simple way to illuminate (diffusely and evenly) the surface only, without shining light through? nice page, thanks Peter. I am thinking of some method to let the crystal illuminate itself by indirect light. tried rings, highly depends on the cost and objective type, and object size. I'll try to find maybe other ring configurations.
The background on which you place the crystal should be dark and non-reflecting as well to get the best surface picture.
