Most health authorities advocate to not employ benzodiazepines for more than 4 to 6 weeks and some are even endorse limiting therapy to 2 to 4 weeks (with some exception such as some forms of epilepsy where long term use is sometimes needed)

In general benzodiazepine dependency is complex depending not only on the compound used ( short or long acting, potency ect), but also on dosage and of course the duration of time their were used.
