Behçet's disease (also called as Behchet's syndrome) is a chronic multisystem inflammatory disorder characterized by ulcers affecting the mouth and genitals, various skin lesions, and abnormalities affecting the eyes. This disease is prevalent in the Middle-Eastern and Mediterranean countries. The exact cause of Behçet's disease is unknown, but it is thought to be an autoimmune disease. The condition probably results from a combination of genetic and environmental factors, most of which have not been identified. However, a particular variation in the HLA-B gene has been associated with the risk of developing Behçet's disease.
