Now a days different auto ESR methods and machine are being used in different countries. International Society of hematology might certify these methods before their marketing. Recently I followed a case (age 74 yrs, male) of febrile illness for the last 1 month with consolidation right lung, not responding different antibiotics. His ESR was done by an auto ESR analyzer on 20th Nov, 2023 was 14mm and on 30th Nov, 2023 , was only 02 mm. I repeat the case with standard Westergren Method and found to be 60mm on 01st December 2023. How this can be explained?
how was the quality control of both automated and manual ESR upto the mark?
have you ruled out pre analytical, analytical and post analytical errors???
was the test performed on both methods simultaneously with same sample??/
was the same error seen in other samples of other patients as well?
Westergren method is established internationally. The automated method needs quality control before marketing and my query was whether International Society of Hematology approved this method or not.
