Please can you help me with the permissive concentration range within which Na is safe for plants and the limit at which it is also considered toxic/harmful?
Please you may as well add any literature to expatiate this if available.
It substantially depends on alkali-earth content. The more Ca, Mg content, the more Na limit for plants. The lime is widely used for rehabilitation of saline soils. Ca and Na behave like antagonists in plants, it is widely known. But if you need proof, I can find some refs (but I remember those refs were in russian).
