As a student I learned that in a title containing a genus- or species name, the authority should always be mentioned behind the name - including phylum and familiy. As an Example: "Investigations on Asterias rubens Linnaeus, 1758 (Echinodermata, Asteroidea) from Norwegian waters". What if colleagues (non-taxonomists) don't want the authority in the title when publishing? My question is: has it also become correct to omit authority behind species and genus names in the published title? Where do I find written rules on this? I tried briefly a journals guidelines as well as ICZN but did not find anything. I recon it is not just up to each journal to decide this - but that they also have to follow international rules?
