After heat treatment (No ST), the Laves phase in Inconel 718 matrix will not get dissolved. But will it be possible to detect in XRD? In case it is not detected, what would be the reason?
Dear Prof. Andreas Leineweber, when Inconel 718 is direct aged and the bulk sample is subjected to XRD analysis, will we get the peak of delta phase. Since certain very weak peaks are observed and also matching to delta phase. I would like know whether such indications need to be considered. In FEG SEM-EDS, this could not be revealed, since both (Laves and delta) were showing Ni and Nb.
Hi, I've performed the study on Laves phase precipitation on a dual stabilized AISI type 441 ferritic stainless steel, and I've used the XRD to quantified it % weight fraction. Initially, I've tried to quantify it content from the bulk sample, but this failed to be detected because of its low volume content, that was below 0.01%wt. frac. Then I electrollically extracted the Laves phase precipitated from the bulk sample, and they were successfully analyses using XRD.
other techniques that were applied in this study to indetify Laves phase were thin foil TEM analysis and thermodynamic modeling. I hope this will help you.
