Denise Skidmore, you are right, there should be compatibility mode, to support older version formats and there should a standard way to keep all of these records in repository. I really appreciate your suggestion.
It is not just the format of data, often the terminology has changed and old entities cannot be mapped to new ones. Basically you need some standardized vocabulary that is not too tightly coupled to other systems ( Low Coupling and High Cohesion ).
