Thanks for reaching out.  I'd be particularly interested in anything you have regarding their occupational health/occupation impact on health.  If that has not been a focus of your work I'd be happy to work with you on expanding into that area if you are interested.

My new project (dissertation) largely focuses on injured immigrant workers in the US who return to Mexico.  I'm particularly interested in their relationship to the state (i.e. experience of receiving medical care for their injuries).  I appreciated your article on immigration as the externalization of cost which I have cited as part of the proposal for this research.  Perhaps we could find some time to touch base.  I hope to have the dissertation proposal finished this month.  If you don't mind perhaps I could run it past you once I finish it.

I would be happy to read your dissertation proposal, Michael.  As far as health, I did ask the beach vendors where they went for care if they were sick, but I never entered  the information into my data base.  The information is archaic now, as there have been recent changes (2016) in the Mexican health care system.  Most tended to go to Seguro Popular when I interviewed them.  It is a program that extended benefits primarily to informal economy workers.  More recently, everyone can now access the facilities for any of the medical providers, whether it be IMSS (traditionally for formal workers), or ISSTE (for workers in the governmental sector).  At least that was what President Peña Nieto proposed.  I have no clue how or if it is working.

Thanks for the updates. I was aware of the changes to the health care system and will be looking into more as I get into my data collection.  In terms of health, did you happen to ask what health problems they tended to have?

No Michael.  My focus was on their economic life. Supposedly the aim of the changes in the health care system in Mexico was to provide universal health care.
