Please see the attached ultrasound images. I am learning transrectal ultrasound for detecting ovulation in some experimental sows (female breeder pigs). The sows were weaned 8 days ago. In three sows, I found large "follicle-like" objects (diameter ranges from 7 to 10 mm) in the ultrasound image on the 4th day post-oestrus (back pressure test was used as sign for post-weaning oestrus). It is a little bit odd, because the oestrus-to-ovulation interval is usually 2 days for multiparous sows. My question- Are the black (anechoic) "follicle-like" objects shown in the ultrasound images (highlighted in red circles) are real follicles? or they are other structures; eg: blood vessels? Wish someone has more experience could comment on the attached three images (particularly the 3rd sow).
Thank you in advance.
