At Bunda College, it seems the P. truncatus we have is very destructive than the ones present in other areas. One researcher collected P. truncatus in Nkhota Kota which was significantly bigger in size than the ones in our colony.
It's quite normal for populations of stored product insects from different geographical regions to vary in their destructive capability. At Reading, UK, we have found this many times with Sitophilus oryzae and Callosobruchus spp. I do maintain different geographical strains of P. truncatus in my lab but I haven't tested this species for the type of variation that you refer to.
