Teachers have been working in online settings, like Zoom. How are teachers assessing literacy skills? How are the assessment implemented in an online environment? For example, have any literacy teachers tried assessing Concepts about Print in a Zoom session?
There are no studies taking place traditionally becouse its very hard for uneducated people to cope with technology within the short period of time. This is becouse there was no schools set for educating people about technology especially on developing countries like countries in great Africa. Thus it was a kind problem to many and a big obstacle to.
Hi Jodi, I just attended a talk within our university department about continuing with a longitudinal study concerning language development in 0-6 year old children and they are using several measures of vocabulary and literacy. It is not strictly teachers performing the assessments, but assessments are being carried out. Ok Jody, literacy skills consist of two forms, spoken form and written form. Spoken form assessment can be carried out by interviewed and/or develop recording video. Written form assessment can be carried out by English teachers through delivering questions to his/her learners. The results of writing composition can be measured by using Turnitin. The main point of writing assessment is how English teachers make writing assessment design. Ok thanks
I have been directly observing some classrooms and listening to teachers' reports of teaching in several states as part of my work. Many teachers are using programs like iStation and iReady to assess basic literacy skills with some limited reading comprehension. There is also some assessment happening where teachers are giving fluency tests during small group or one-on-one opportunities via video conference. Some teachers are also using workbook worksheets scanned into an LMS like Google Classroom, SeeSaw or the similar. There is very little other literacy assessment going on for many students.
