My opinion is that NO. Like all organisms in the environment has their specific role in ecosystem, all scientific fields has their specific role in science development. I hear many times that some fields are not important (unfortunately from my, so called, colleagues). This vision to me looks that these people either has a deficit of knowledge or they have not adequate information.

It does not mean, that if the subject is so actual, that all world scientists are working on it, is more important, than the subject on which is working only few people in the world.
