On occasion, and in my case where I get hundreds of daily readers, I see some profiles of what appear to be potentially fake identities, or potentially fake or false institutions. On some occasions, I receive requests from "individuals" with really weird names that sound oddly similar to another word (as a hypothetical example, Dr. Joy Ride = joyride), and in other cases, links to their profiles just simply "vanish".

I am concerned that RG may be used by a sector of the academic population for fake accounts, for whatever purpose.

Can other RG holders please comment if they have observed this situation, and can RG execs perhaps explain how they are verifying accounts, or if registration for a RG account is purely an automatic (AI) function, without a follow-up human verification. For example, has RG considered using ORCID, or some other linkable identifier, to validate the existence of such individuals?
