I am researching the affect of materials within electronic products to encourage user attachment and therefore increase product longevity. I am interested to know if there are any examples of products designed specifically to encourage attachment by the decisions made during the material selection process. Essentially is there an example of a beautifully aged electronic product which has the characteristics of a well loved leather/wood analogue product?
Richard Seymour once showed me a very well developed and thought through design that never got to market which I think perfectly fits your specification. It wad a rather beautifully constructed laptop case made in pewter designed to take fingering marks and mature as a totally individual object, he called it a compewter! I think it might have been rather heavy compared with today's mac air!
thanks Bryan. i'll try and find it. There seems to be slim pickings in terms of other examples! The only other one I've managed to find is Iameco who make wooden laptops, tablets and a computer mouse. other than that nothing out there. anyway, thanks again for the heads-up. Alan
