My hypothesis is that, in spite of the negative and distracting aspects of the internet, the vast amount of information available makes the school curriculum, and teachers, redundant.  Any student wishing to look into an issue or a subject simply looks it up and can access people and lectures that may go beyond what they might learn in class.  Schools must, therefore, teach more than just content or knowledge attached to that content.
