I have observed a large number of Argus Pheasant, Rhinoceros Hornbill and Helmeted Hornbill feathers in trade and I would like to estimate the number of individual birds required to account for these feathers. I therefore need estimated numbers of tail feathers and wing feathers for each of these species (a range is fine). Are there any resources that could help me or is there anyone who has knowledge of this.

The Slater Museum of Natural History at the University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, WA, USA houses a collection of bird wings and tails. However it does not appear that they have the species of interest. Gary Shugart, the collections manager, may be able to assist you with finding a similar museum collection containing the specimens you desire.

I do not not need specific feather types. I am doing market surveys to assess the levels of wildlife trade in these species and I would like to know how many tail/wing feathers represent a single individual.
