Gibbs free energy of reaction of a gas with the metal oxide can give an indication of the metal oxide sensor operating temperature. However, references in this subject are vary rare. Is this belongs to the difficulty of using this method to determine the sensor operating temperature or it might be the unreliable results of this method?

Gibbs Energy – function of state. State function depend only on the state of the system and does not depend on the way in which it is received condition. All thermodynamic properties are well defined only at equilibrium conditions. Gibbs energy can be calculated only on the equilibrium concentrations. At the Gibbs energy of a lot of restrictions. So, in my opinion, difficulty of using this method to determine the sensor operating temperature.
