Often the existing source codes and solvers are not enough for specific applications, and it becomes necessary to modify source code files in such a way so as to suit the needs of the user. Unfortunately, there is very little reading material available online (that I know of) which can help me with this. I want to learn how to write codes for my very own solver and use them within the framework of OpenFOAM.

Also in addition to what Mahabat Khan and Orogun Adebola have provided, I would suggest searching for anything you feel stuck in on https://www.cfd-online.com. It is an accumulated knowledge bank for all nearly all users of OpenFOAM since it was first time released. It is very helpful
Supposing you have admin privileges (e.g. you are running OF in your local PC or you have it installed under your user in a cluster), to modify solvers in OF (or create your own solvers) you should do the following:
1) Go to the OpenFOAM folder (the one you have the ThirdParty and the OpenFOAM folders).
2) Once there, go to OpenFOAM > applications > solvers
3) There, choose the kind of solver you would like to modify/create. For example, if I want to modify the reactingFoam solver, I would go to OpenFOAM > applications > solvers > combustion.
4) Supposing I want to modify reactingFoam, I would create a copy of the whole reactingFoam folder and rename it (let's call it reactingFoam_2). That is just to assure that you do not mess up with the build-in reactingFoam and you can mess up the solver copy without messing up the original solver.
5) Then, go into reactingFoam_2 folder (or whatever name you put to your newly created solver copy folder) and you can change whatever you need there (e.g. you can edit YEqn file and change the species definitions and equations, UEqn and change the momentum equation,...).
6) Once you are happy with your additions/changes, you should go reactingFoam_2 folder > Make folder > files. In the "files" file, you should rename the reactingFoam (or whatever original name was having your solver) to reactingFoam_2 (or whatever name you renamed before the copied solver folder).
7) Then, you just have to build again the newly created solver (wmake) and you will have it! Note: sometimes I had to build the whole OpenFOAM again to make OpenFOAM create the proper links between libraries and the new solver.
8) Remember that when you run a case, you will have to call your new solver by the name you called that folder (for this explanation, it was reactingFoam_2).
For creating a new solver from scratch, follow the same steps but instead of creating a copy of an existent solver folder, create your own with your own files inside and recompile OpenFOAM afterward.
