Avoidance rates for bird collisions with wind turbines are available, but can anyone provide a published reference for avoidance rates for bird collisions with power lines?
I haven't come across many publications relating to avoidance rates (but see related attached refs), but can forward a list relating to collision rates. Certainly an area of research that could be investigated further! We published a paper about Cape vulture use of transmission lines for roosting / perching - they actually used areas closer to power lines more often than expected based on availability.

Thanks for the references and info. Yes, it would be good to think about getting data on avoidance rates since collision rate data necessitates some estimate of population sizes, which are difficult!
