Some papers have started working together with databases to deposit data freely as long as your paper is accepted/published, though more effort is required. What I did in my case recently was to find a way to convert/present the raw data in a way that can be fitted in a MS Word/PDF format, and request for it to be uploaded as supplementary information. The only thing now is that people who want to use the data will have to download the files and work a bit on the formatting before using the data.

I am a little bit confused about this whole thing-- since these data already been published in a Journal, researchers can only re-use them free in (1) a talk (presentation) or (2) writing a review paper, and I assume that they cannot be re-used to publish another 'original' paper. So, what is the real usefulness of those deposited 'data sets'?

In my case, when using certain genetic markers, I would like to compare my results with another study that uses the same markers to see if there is a difference in the way we treat the same data. One could probably also use the published data in combination with his/her own data to generate a better/more wholesome inference (provided that the source of data be clearly cited).
