We want to look at TGF-b production in out primary cell cultures from mice but traditionally we have used 10% FBS with our media. The problem is that FBS has TGF-b present normally giving us very high backgrounds in our ELISAs. We want to see if there is anything such as BSA that can be easily substituted in our cultures but won't give us the high background.

You can not replace FBS with BSA. FBS is required for providing growth factors and other proteins for the survival of the cells. However, you can deplete the TGF-b from FBS and have clear results of TGF-b production from the cells. Please follow the link for more details. Goodluck
