Experts divide translation into (at least) two types: semantic and communicative? Are the categories as a result of their understanding toward language (linguistic universalism and linguistic relativism)? My assumption is linguistic universalism generates the semantic translation and linguistic relativism brings out the communicative translation.

Evidently, views of language are rooted in the philosophies defining them. Notably, formalistic and functionalist views of language driven by different philosophies impact translator's adoption of either semantic or communicative methods of translation. However, under quite a different perspectivization, a translator may choose a particular method rather than the other and the decision is made based on the type of text. As an illustration, a literary text requires a semantic rather than a communicative approach.
