Are the primitive translational axis (or vectors) and the principle axis of a crystal the same?

We define the principal axis of a crystal as the axis of a coordinate system in which dielectric constant tensor takes its diagonal form. Whereas the primitive translational axis are the crystallographic axis. If the two are the same, then is it safe to say that in general principle axis of a crystal are not mutually orthogonal to each other?
