To prevent citrus transplants from low temperatures during winter months i cover many seedlings using polyethylene cover, but in the next spring i notice that covered seedlings gave less flowers than uncovered one,so that I wonder if citrus have a chilling requirements for flowers bud initiation.
Vernalisation is required in some citrus species, but flowering intensity is also influenced by fruit crop size of the preceding year.

There is no doubt that the majority of fruit trees, especially the deciduous fruits need some kind of chilling during winter, this is called (chilling requirement) in which the fruit tree must be subjected to a period of cold which is variety dependent and this is counted as chilling hrs., in which temperature is between 0-10 Celsius and as average is 7.2 Celsius, in this aspect, there are many many research papers.
