Different methods are being used based on your research questions(s). Conferences mainly are good place to introduce your work in progress to have peer comments and suggestion. Journals as well as conference proceedings usually requires certain format for presenting your work, However, no restrictions on research method are being required.
As the colleague said; i will just add up. The metodology should be connected to the research question and not to the "state school". As long as methodology is academically valid there should be no limitation how to do things. However, there are approaches or methods which are considered more appropriate in certain academic community.
Unified approach in Conference papers is not followed anywhere. Each paper is a unique output and the evaluating panel only assorts them based on a theme. Each theme will have experts who evaluate the papers for relevance and utility.
