Are student ratings an objective method to evaluate instructors? Please share your personal experience and some studies on this topic. Pros and cons of SET (Student Evaluation of Teaching). Anonymous evaluations may protect students, but they also give them carte blanche to write about anything without being accountable for their comments.

SET can have some value, but only if it is one of multiple forms of evaluation.
And of course, the nature of the questions asked is also has great potential to skew the results. Teachers, or teacher unions, should have control, or at least significant input, into the questions asked.

Thank you, Michael. I never evaluated my teachers when I was a student, and I now really believe there is too much bias and zero control.
