It was found that shearing ewes during pregnancy resulted in an an increase in milk production and the weights of lambs at birth and weaning. In other study it wad reportred that shearing ewes at lambing has no effect on milk profuction
To my knowledge, most ewes do not have wool around the udder and on the inner side of the leg, that could discourage the first suckings. In temperate countries at least during the cool season, shearing increases body heat loss and stimulates food intake, which promotes fetal growth and milk production, thus promoting lamb survival and growth.
The production of milk may not be affected by shearing in sheep. If the lamb is weaker at the time of birth, then it may take less milk. However, there should not be any problem in taking enough milk from ewes (without shearing) by healthy lambs.
