In the past, my city may not be prettier, but we felt more comfortable and happier than we now feel about myself and my town, I see it was the most beautiful in childhood, unlike it now.
Our past is not dead as the past is historical monument & its cultural environment still make our cities a place of attraction . However from 19 century ,20 th century & 21 th century have already offered a scope of modern change & with this scientific & technological development & new line of business environment have made the city more colorful than the early period .
The place is part of ourselves, so we always feel nostalgic for the place of childhood, that makes our judgments subjective and biased to the home of childhood,
Thank you Mohsin_Al-Shammari , totally agree with you, as well as large and congestion and pollution population increases, all negative effects, as well as reported
Our virtuous teacher really believed the cities and places that are related to childhood are not only related to reality but also to the dreams that are too much attached to those places without them as if they are part of the human being and himself
It is true that cities have become more diverse and open to others, but at the same time their problems and complexities have increased. We must don't forget the differences between cities among countries. The cities of the developing world have become worse.
Our cities were prettier than they are now, as cities were less polluted and their people had jobs, and most of the cities now turned into large villages
As the saying goes, "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder." Cities these days may look more posh and high tech and may have better sanitation and transportation networks than cities of the yore. However cities of the past are not to be scoffed at. Indus Valley civilization of ca. 3000 BC had one of the earliest urban sanitation systems. The Mayan and other ancient civilizations exhibited a lot of ingenuity and advanced engineering efforts: This, given minimum development in tool technology and less methods available to make mathematical calculations
Actually, technology has made our lives easier, but they have added new problems, but do not think we only remember beautiful memories and forget the hardships of life in past cities
According to me in my country, No , our cities become less beautiful than our cities in the past. In the past our cities were very beautiful. There is no comparison between the past and nowadays.
Yes, cities are more beautiful, every where touches the development with skyscraper, mosque, temple, church but something seriously evaporating i.e. humanity.
Some cities still beautiful because there is a vision to maintain the local identity of the city. But actually the criterion of beauty differs from city to city and also the culture is a very crucial parameter in this equation. Some people find the city beautiful if it is green, while others find city beautiful if it is modern and smart, others like historical cities and find it the most beautiful
I think that it depends on a number of things and places: colonial cities, especially colonial capitals had the location that represented colonial power and wealth. Such sections of cities often were rather pompous and magnificent. Other place of same cities were at times very substandard. I developed, in particular European countries rich historical cities still today of architectural highlights, often established in the Middle Ages. Also there urban magnificence did not reflect the lives of everybody. So the notion of 'beautiful' has a very social connotation, beautiful for whom. I think that from a pure aesthetic point of view cities that are able to control the pollution of waterways, excessive poverty often look nicer than places where this is not happening. What the latter is concerned it is, however, happening at times that governments and municipalities resettle poor to the rim of cities, also to not disturbed 'beauty'.
One would assume that the answer will vary from city to city. However, it could be argued that cities in the past have been enriched with more individuality, distinctiveness and character as they were developed in a more secluded environment than they are today, where there is a tendency to focus on global trends.
Yes, most of the cities currently developing look usually more modern and in some aspects, in some districts, some architectural objects may look more impressive, they may be better integrated into the surroundings compared to the analogical issue from several decades ago.
The beauty of the city often refers to the basic human needs as well as the aesthetic aspects of the arrangement and organization of the city. But when we say that the cities of the present are ugly, most often we mean the loss of all the features referred to earlier.
Our cities may look beautiful, but are polluting a lot, therefore can't be sustainable, need to be changed - to be rebuilt. They represent our society which is growing in the wrong direction, growing towards death and extinction.
In my country Iraq is not the most beautiful on the contrary and generally whenever the countries are teeming with high urbanism and markets so that the natural monuments disappear the truth will not be beautiful
The beauty I saw in the cities of Turkey and not the capital and in Malaysia and Indonesia where the scenes of the charming nature which is created by the creative creator and no human income in it
Wonderful analysis, I agree with you, that the beauty of cities does not include the aesthetic aspects but also to the needs of basic human rights, as many of the cities of the world as a result of large increases in the population lost both attributes.
I agree with you that the cities were unique and suitable for their inhabitants because they evolved naturally for a long period of time, but cities now tend to be global because civilization has become universal.
There might be a different prospective of looking at the facts. The technological advancements are quite higher as compared to past so the technological means of cleanliness are improved these days. On the other hand, this advancement led most of the people heading towards urban areas that consequently caused more pollution in recent times as compared to past
