The distinction allogenic vs. autogenic is used to describe the life-cycle of parasites. Autogenic parasites spend their whole life in one type of ecosystem (typically aquatic) while allogenic parasites transit between at least two types of ecosystems during their life.
My question is the following:
Is it correct to describe the life cycle of parasitic copepods (also referred as micropredators by Lafferty & Kuris 2002 Trends in Parasitology) or is this characteristic restricted to define the life-cycle of complex life-cycle parasites (or maybe endohelminths - I am not really sure to be honest) only?
Thanks for your help!
