In my research, I must disperse Tio2 - ZnO- Mno2 nanoparticles in ethanol (96 %), but I don't know which surfactant is suitable.
In this research the surfactant should not have a great effect on the surface tension.
If the nanofluids remain stable for 1 hour, it will be enough.
Would you suggest the suitable surfactant for each nanoparticle? And how much of them should be used?
Nanoparticles properties :
Zno : 50 nm
Tio2 :20-25 nm - Rutile
Mno2 : 30 - 45 nm
Ethanol : 96 %

you can use phosphonate, ester phosphate as surfactants : Beycostat C213 , A B09. Very efficient grafting.
Nanoparticle dispersions in a solvent (e.g. EtOH) may be stable depending upon the affinity of the surfactant toward the solvent: a useful rule-of-thumb is "like dissolves like". Titanium oxide shows strong affinity for carboxylate-bearing or phosphate ester molecules because they bind strongly to its surface. Such surfactants, in turn, mix enough well with EtOH. Read Langmuir 2009, 25, 5371-5379 and Langmuir 1997, 13, 115-118.
Please use acetone. It is more favourable than other ones. I also do that for ZnO nanoparticle synthesized in lab.
It depends on the application of ur materials. Basically ZnO n TiO2 nanoparticles are used as photocatalyst. I myslef use n-butylamine or caprylic acid as surface modifier to make the nanoparticles stable in medium. Ethanol could be used as solvent for measuring zeta potential (for measuring stability of nanoparticles). However, caprylic acid reacts with ZnO and give a gel compound showing crystal growth depending on the amount of surfactant used. There are many factors affecting the stability of the nanoparticles synthesized (e.g. precursors, fabrication technique, solvent, temperature, etc.).
Mno2 nanoparticles are well disperse in DMSO ..but to get well disperse solution sonicate it for 30 min and u will get well dispersed Mn NPs solution...
What do you mean by stable for an hour - not settling or being stable as nanoparticles and not forming agglomerates?
Did you tried dispersion in ethanol?
