I am involved last years in field of problems called "Technology Assessment" which is focused - in general - on social impact of new technologies and products. Some colleagues ask me (rather frequently) is it justified to prepare this kind of expertise without a bit of philosophical reflexion, considering the ethical aspects of such expertise prepared by people of science. Another question: according to "the natural course of things", before thinking about assessing technologies, perhaps we should think about assessing social impact of results of scientific research??
