What is the value proposition of the in-house legal counsel role within an organization and where this function should fit in the organizational structure to better deliver its mission and optimize its support to the business?
With regards to value proposition of the in-house legal counsel role within an organisation, in my humble opinion, it really depends on the kind of organisation under discussion.
A long operating concern / steady state 100 year-old company / organisation without extensive interruptions can survive on the support of retained external counsels with existing experience of day to day transactions.
In a new start-up, with interruptions everyday of IP protection, IP challenges, invoices not paid, etc. does not have the means to support an in-house counsel.
However, in an recently established company with reasonable means, an in-house counsel can support the CEO, CFO and CXO's effectively.
