Could you give us some information about long-term results ? One-year follow-up is very short for drawing reliable conclusions about the efficiency of any structure replacement technique.
Kaleem Rajput, preclinical canine studies with the scaffold have reported, at 3 months postimplantation, intensive integration with the periphery and complete infiltration of all pores of the implant with vascularized fibrous tissue that had produced an abundant extracellular matrix, showing abundant collagen type 1 antibody labeling throughout the implant. At 6 months after implantation, the scaffold was integrated with the peripheral capsule and was completely filled with tissue.
However the degradation time for these scaffolds may be too short and longer follow-up with large-scale studies are required in the near future.
Hello, i want to know how much will be the cost of this kind of prosthesis?? And if is this accessible in the medical market to be used? Because I don't find information about the cost to made a meniscal prosthesis.. and i'm very intriguing about this. Thanks
Dear Leilane, the cost of each Actifit ® implant is about 2000€. It is available to an orthopaedic surgeon if he thinks there is an indication for its application. The main indication is persistent pain in a chronic meniscus deficient stable knee after a meniscectomy (with an irreparable loss of >25% meniscal tissue) with and intact meniscal rim and without having osteoarthritis (chondral degeneration).
If you want to know more about indications and outcomes of Meniscal Implants (CMI) read this article below.
