A new worldwide phenomenon has been well documented with videos.
What I would like to find out is how one can transmit sound in a new way (nothing that we know so far). It has explosion-like effects like shaking houses, but the energy comes from the sky.

Reports of, ah, 'reports' from the sky are not new.
A meteoric bolide is a plausible mechanism for delivering such concussive noises - the Earth receives many tonnes of extraterrestrial material per day. Mostly grain-sized, but there are occasional bolides that could fit the bill as sound sources.

I am aware of the sources of energy that could trigger sounds in the air. However, the trumpet-like sounds have only started in the spring of 2011 and continued, but were not heard of before that date. Therefore, it could not be caused by bolides and meteorites that have been coming ever since the Solar System was created.

Fascinating.
I've personally heard sounds not unlike the Barisal guns (while in Canterbury, near the SE coast of England), but they were certainly not trumpet-like.
Was there a tone-like quality to these noises or were they shorter percussive blasts?
