Surveymonkey is surely a powerful tool, but it does come at a cost if you want to use all of its advanced features. If you are looking at a free or cheaper option, check out Lime Survey. It is open source, free and adaptable. It features various output formats that work with SPSS, R, STATA and others. You can host yourself on your own website (no fees), there is even support for wordpress. It can be hosted you via limeservice.com. There, for anything above 25 responses per month with an unlimited number of questiions you have to pay but it seems to be cheaper than surveymonkey.
We use Qualtrics software in our institutional research unit to send out surveys, sometimes in bulk. The provider undertakes to send out e-mails of a particular quantity. This survey software has great functionality, however, it also comes at a cost. The cost of 1 license to use in a department might not be too steep if you have the budget. We also like SurveyMonkey.......good luck!
