The Tune check report shows a large Na peak next to the Mg (mass 24) peak in the Resolution/Axis portion of the report. I have cleaned the nebulizer, spray chamber, connector tube and interface cones. I tried long rinses with 5% HNO3 but it does not seem to help. Any suggestions?

I see basically two options if rinsing does not help:
A) your rinse may be contaminated
B) you are running the instrument (an Agilent, I suppose) in "hot extraction" meaning the first lens is set to high negative value instead of slightly positive.
In hot extraction some of the Na deposited in the interface region will gradually evaporate and can get ionized. In hot extraction these ions can be accelerated towards the MS, in the other case that's not as likely.
