I am conducting research on the influence of attachment style on students' academic success. To eliminate subtle differences in what is being measured (attachment style between parent (primary caregiver) and adolescent - not a romantic relationship), I am trying to narrow down my instrument of choice. I need a fresh eye on this one to double-check my thinking. Thanks in advance.
You've certainly got choices. Feeney's Attachment Style Questionnaire is widely used, as is Sibley's Experiences in Close Relationships scale - but the latter is specific to romantic relationships, isn't it? For a "quickie," there's also Bartholomew & Horowitz's Relationships Questionnaire.
If the measure you want to use has instructions that specify romantic relationships (or leave the issue open), you can always modify it with your own instructions (i.e., to think about parents). Just be aware that you can't use existing norms & also need to report the reliability statistics for your modified measure.
One other thought: "Parents" plural or each parent separately? Think about it...
