Both qualitative and quantitative methods suggestions would be appreciated in order to measure and individuate urban tourism pedestrian patterns in heritage-based precints.
There is the need to determine accessibility patterns and possibly walkways for pedestrian movement. and of course, there should measured relative distance between the heritage and its precints. Therefore, using quantitative method, there is need to have an auto-reader that records the movement pattern of individuals during the period of study. Data collected can be analysed and a model used to further determine best fit model
you can use Gps loggers to track tourists or a smartphone app based in GPS technology. I am using an app in my Phd research to find backpackers movement patterns in Porto (Portugal).
If you are thinking to track tourists in Italy, please, let me know! We can compare results! My research is about backpackers space-time behavior in a multi attraction urban destinations. Porto was classified by Unesco as world heritage! I will try to find if backpackers walk by different streets and visit different attractions! Porto historic centre is changing day by day with new buildings and new business!
It would be very interesting! Our case study will be focused on Florence, one of the leading cities in Italy for cultural heritage and for UNESCO endowment, especially as for the historic centre. Let we keep in touch, dear Márcio :)
