Does anyone knows any study which investigates the effect of the vertical trust (trust between citizens and government) on the horizontal trust (trust between citizens)? I am intrested to find out if the lack of trust in goverment might lead to lack of trust in society.
Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

Interesting question! In the era of Trump the norm behind all norms (ie, trust) has broken down + expanding differentiation of social norms within all societies, then all connections/trust-based relations are under threat. A signifier of the general lack of trust may be Ulrich Beck's Risk Society (all trust involves a calculation of risk) + Max Weber's increasingly instrumentally rational society. All social norms break down if there is no trust.
Trust in government encourages social cohesion only if the government and the Parliament of a country show willingness to give answers to the problems df the population. This is the only towards trust in institutions and therefore participation in politics: this is a sign of a dynamic image and reliability of a country. Reliability is realized when a true democracy is founded on the legally constituted state, on the principle of legality and on the separation of powers (legislative, executive and judiciary), see Montesquieu 1700. Trust is also the engine of human development and economic growth, and affects the expectations of both consumers and entrepreneurs. In almost all the countries of the world there have been periods of three or four years of real development, as in Latin American countries. But globalization inhibits development.
Check out Sztompka's 2000 book (or 2003 edition), chapter 3, page 50 in the section on 'Targets of trust combined'. It is unempirical and it also lacks a proper theory of process, but it might serve as an example of how fuzzy this relationship has been conceived in the theoretical lit on trust.
