Hi John

I have created utilization distributions for 6 birds and i want to understand the extent of overlap of their utilization distributions.

There are a number of indices which are used to test the extent of overlap. However iam not very sure which one can give me better results, for example which indices tend to give a much bigger overlap percentage or ratio and which ones tend to give a much smaller overlap percentage

If you are modelling niche, you can use ECOSPAT package in R. In the output you will have a overlap niche index (D); similarity and equivalency test; and p-values.
