It's taken for granted that agricultural wastes are contaminated by plant pathogens and pesticides. I would like to know the different techniques and methods you suggest to improve the supressiveness effect of composting against plant pathogens.

I worked more with suppressive soils, but there is a lot of literature on suppressive composts. As far as I read there are largely altering successrates with creation of suppressive composts. Important is, however, the material that you put into the compost (C/N ratio, structure,...), the process of composting and the maturity of the compost. The core temperature is a bit ambivalent... many say it is important to kill pathogens, but on the other hand core composts that were exposed to high temperature are not suppressive while edge compost with lower temperature are suppressive, because beneficial organisms can survive. Once the center cools down the beneficial organisms from the cooler compost parts reestablich in the center making it suppressive.
Hi Tab: If is for small experiment I suggest to autoclave the soil, it will kill all the pathogens, but if it for a large scale experiment I suggest to pasteurize the soil at 63 C for 16 h.
I'm not pathologist, but I support the response of Paul Milham. Increase temperature in compost pile to 60°C will decrease to 90% plant pathogens, and helps to increase the rate of useful fungi such as trichoderma, witch are thermoresistant.
thanks you a lot dear Researchers for your collaboration.But i want to know a simple method can improve that my composting is able to eliminate all plants pathogens.( Zero pathogens in product). i now that the best way is PCR but it's a pity our machine is out of service for this moment.
