I have a series of 10,000 (X,Y) points and I can represent them in Excel with a Scatter plot. However, I need to obtain their probability contour curves (which would correspond to the Z axis values), but I need a software that calculates them for me, since I don't even know the Z values.
On top of that,f that software, or add-in was easy to use and free, it would be highly appreciated.

gnumeric works like excel..
gnuplot is more powerfl but needs you to learn scripting..
more sophisticated is then paraview

Most statistical software have a module to calculate iso-density curves, which is exactly what you want. You can do this with R, or with python+numpy+pandas. Even MATLAB/Octave has a function to obtain iso curves.

At the very base of the isosurface is a marching cubes/marching tetrahedra algorithm, which is also readily available as plugin/libraries for your own programs.

thank you you for your answers. The problem is that I am not an R user, not a Matlab or similar. I need something that either works as a standalone component or it is an Excel complement. I cannot learn a new software just to draw a density plot.
