Alternatively, you can try to understand the WRF intermediate format and write your own program to prepare those CMIP5 data into the intermediate format.

As Liew mention, you may have to build your own table that can digest each parameter from the CMIP5 input. First, you have to check what required the WRF model as input using the simplest microphysics scheme and check if that provided by the CMIP5 data. As an example, some microphysics does not require soil moisture and soil temperature, some others required 4 layers of each ...

I see the project that your are working. I am interested in the area you are working in the project. and also what I am working is similar with that . I am using WRF-ARW to study the sensitivity of different parametrization at the fist step using ERA-I data to drive WRF and later I am going to use the best set of parametrization obtained from the first result to project future climate using some GCMSs from CMIP5.    So how can I access data and possibly work with you?.

It is good to hear that you are planning to use WRF for generating high resolution climate change projections. There are a couple of people here running WRF where one is an Ethiopian visiting fellow. He is working on the same thing you are planning to do. I can hook you up with him so that you will have a chance to interact.

I  am interested in a region covering west africa and the easter atlantic ocean for high impact weather and climate events and therefore, need a way to use cmip5 data at wrf intermediate format. Unfortunately the file size are so big and inaccessible with our very slow Internet connexion.

For 1989 - 2000, I am  using era-interim and and ccsm data to drive a global channel model @ 20km and a regional nested domain @ ~ 3km for Europe. This could be applied to other nested domains.  The data will take ~ 1 year to construct, but will then be available for analysis.  The channel domain goes to +/- 68 degrees latitude.  The 20 km data set (initially for 2020-2030, chasm driven runs) will also be available for that region, but explicit convection will not be available. If you have ~ 12 million core hours and 300 Tb of disc space on a fast computer (the job takes 4,000 cores), and you then could do a nest over Africa.

Dear Cindy L. Bruyère NCAR CESM dataset has no data for leap years. How did you manage that problem?

I have downloaded the CESM bias corrected data from NCAR site for WRF run. It has been told that they are intermediate file. so there is no need to run ungrib.exe. Its ok. But how can I run the metgrid.exe ? Can any one please write the steps to proceed to get wrfoutput file...what changes I need to be made in metgrid.tbl or else where..? Do have I to link the intermediate files or not before run metgrid.exe?..Pls any one share his/ her approach towards that..I got a pdf where procedure is mentioned to run those files in wps..but not clear too much..

The CESM data 'ds316.1' which is already in intermediate format, then how to run metgrid.exe process. Is there any need to make changes in VariableTable? also what are those changes?
