For the final assignment of my Health Psychology Masters, I need to complete a Quantative Research Portfolio. I have successfully answered three of the four questions but nothing looks right with the fourth.
The Question is:
A health psychologist is interested in how health insurance rates for males and females changed over a period of three years. Her question is: Are there differences in Health Insurance Rate by Gender and Year?
Its probably obvious but I am totally lost, could anyone offer any help?
Even just pointing me in the right direction would be a massive help.

But if the question is: "Are there differences in Health Insurance Rate by Gender and Year?" - how shall we help to answer this? Do you have data?
I guess the question is actually a different one, like "how to plan a study to answer such a question?" - For this, some more input is required, e.g. can you follow the insurance takers (i guess not) and how frequently do you get data over the time period? Will the rates be given with or without the denominator?
So your response variable is a "rate", what means that a Gamma model will likely be appropriate. The independent/explanatory variables are Time and Gender. Time is actually a metric variable, but since you seem to haven data from only 3 distinct time points, I would treat it as a categorical variable (a 3-level factor). Gender is also a categorical variable (I dunno with how many levels, maybe just male and female, but the concept of gender is way more complicated than biological sex). So it's a two-factorial Gamma-model. The model should include the intearcation (Time:Gender), as this will encode the differences by gender over time (or the difference by time across gender).
