Does anyone have any leads or ideas for a measure of the extent to which we align to our comfort seeking self (ID in Freudian Psychology) versus our greater ambitions and goals (Super Ego). I'm thinking of some composite measure involving laziness, giving in to impulses, and achieving of goals and ambitions.
What comes to mind is Kuhl's action-state orientation, which concerns how people turn intentions into actions/behaviors and goal attainment, and when things go wrong. Action-orientation is the condition in which a person is able to stay focused and strive toward goals. State-orientation is a breakdown in cognitive control whereby a person either can't get started, gets distracted, or gets bogged down in details. Here's a couple of sources.

This sounds similar to some ideas that Dr. Veronika Huta has been exploring at the University of Ottawa. She uses the idea of eudaimonia (seeking meaning) in contrast to hedonia (seeking pleasure).
