I would like to use a 5-year data on EPS targets for companies listed on Bursa Malaysia. only actual EPS's are disclosed in the annual reports. Could someone suggest a source where these data can be found?
Also in India, the big companies put out outlook reports giving projections for next year. These can be referred,if similar system is there in Malaysia.
I donI don'tnk these will be useful for a research project. There is probably weak analyst following, so thre iis bound t o be few forecasts and large errors. I','d be careful.
May you check the data stream in UNISZA, it's free and you can download all kinds of financial data for all countries for everything you need such as EPS.
You can not get data on forecast EPS from the published financial statement. You ca only get it through the budget of the companies you are using as case study. You need top management level in the company of your choice to be able to get the data.
It will be very difficult for you to get these estimates from published financial statements for your research. I advice you that you should used some forecasting principles and practices to come out with you own from available data/information on EPS. The following are some of the forecasting principles that may be useful for your research:
1. Simple or multiple regression analysis
2. Judgmental forecast analysis
3. Exponential smoothing analysis
4. Interpolation or extrapolation analysis.
These are some few out if many, so you can go ahead and search anyone that fit to your research work.
As I mentioned earlier, I/B/E/S is the best source to collect forecast EPS data. They report mean analyst, meadian analyst forecast with standard deviation of forecast. You can find number of analysts used as well. The database is accessible through Thomson Research Data Services (WRDS). After log in, just go to I/B/E/S. Otherwise you can get the same data through Datasteam but no data of SD and number of analysts making the forecast. You only need to use the appropriate code. Thanks.
