How we can determine the energy absorbed by the soft ballistic material (fabric panels) supported by backing material after NIJ IIIA test? It is possible to measure the energy absorption by the panel, if the panel is gripped at the edges without the backing material through measuring the striking and residual velocity. In the case of drop tower or quasi-statistic test, the energy transmitted to the backing could be also possible to determined by computing the volumes of BFS at the back according to NIJ standards (using calibration). Does this work for dynamic test as well?
